Gareth Jones BA Hons MA UD Dip Bldg Con (RICS) RTPI IHBC
Gareth set up Gareth Jones Heritage Planning in September 2019. He is a chartered planner with over 25 years’ experience working across the public and private sectors. He has specialised in heritage, townscape and urban design.
He began his career at Chester City Council before moving on to work as a conservation and design officer at a number of London Boroughs including Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster City Council. His last local government post was as the Urban Design and Conservation Manager at the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. He then joined CABE as a design review advisor with a case load including a number of high profile projects across the UK. Since then Gareth was an associate in the heritage teams of various consultancies. Most recently he was a townscape consultant at Peter Stewart Consultancy, focusing on schemes in historically sensitive environments.
Gareth has worked on a wide range of projects in the private sector, including preparing built heritage chapters for a wide range of ES schemes. He has acted as expert witness in respect of heritage and design matters at numerous public inquiries.
Gareth has worked on a wide variety of projects, both small and large scale. The latter include the Southbank Place redevelopment and various schemes in Canary Wharf, Shoreditch and Battersea. Other projects involve sensitive heritage assets such as the new library at Lambeth Palace, or the extension to the Royal Opera House and the Wellington Hotel site in Covent Garden.
Gareth was on the CABE Planning Advisory Committee, a CABE Enabler and a member of the Southwark Design Panel. He currently sits on the Richmond upon Thames Design Review Panel.
